THE MILK TOPIC by @charissa_and_co_wellness

♥Often not sure if milk could perhaps be the culprit that is leading to some discomfort from within? Maybe you think you might be intolerant to milk, often most times to find out is by crowding out certain food groups gradually seeing if it makes a difference.

Often people find they are #Lactose intolerant, thus an impaired ability to digest lactose. Lactose is a sugar found in milk and other dairy products.

╚»★«╝

Most often lactose is normally broken down by an enzyme called lactase, which is produced by cells in the lining of the small intestine.

╚»★«╝

I did find out I was lactose intolerant myself after having abdominal pain, bloating, some studies also suggest most people whom are lactose intolerant have flatulence, nausea, diarrhea. Ref: USA National Library of Medicine

╚»★«╝

It is great to know that those limited days of milk is gone. We now have access to many alternatives, as seen stocked in every convenience store, coffee shops.

╚»★«╝

There is an abundance of plant-based milk alternatives on offer. It’s not surprising that they’ve become so popular, with 65% of adults worldwide suffering from a form of lactose intolerance, along with the plant-based diets becoming increasingly popular.

╚»★«╝

With such a variety available, how do we know what the differences are, perhaps not too sure?

╚»★«╝

Oat Milk

Created by soaking and blending whole oats with water, oat milk has a creamy texture with an unsurprisingly oaty taste

╚»★«╝

Coconut Milk

Different to the tinned coconut milk used for cooking, drinkable coconut milk is made by blending grated coconut in hot water and separating the liquid.

╚»★«╝

Almond Milk

Often loved by most. Made similar to oat; the almonds are soaked and blended with water to create a nutty, creamy milk. Many are opting to make #homemade almond milk too. It’s naturally high in the antioxidant vitamin E, which is involved in keeping our skin healthy and strengthening our immune response.

╚»★«╝

Pea Milk

Pea milk is often fortified with vitamins such as calcium and potassium, a key electrolyte for the body. Compared to dairy milk, some pea milk manufacturers have been able to use 25% less water when producing the milk, making it better for the environment.

╚»★«╝

Tiger Nut Milk

A sweet yet coconut nutty taste, this delicious superfood works well as a plant based alternative. Loaded with fibre, antioxidants, along with a good amount of vitamins, minerals. Like all nuts, it is key to pre-soak them allowing for the nutrients to become more bio-available.

╚»★«╝

Other milks, includes your hazelnut, rice milk and even cashew milks

╚»★«╝

If you have not yet tried or found your favourite, often it is great to start off with Almond milk, then afterwards trying oat milk..If these are not for you, perhaps one of the other options are for you.
